Well, I jumped on the Bulls bandwagon with such excitement after game 1 that I didn’t remember to fasten my seat belt, and i now find myself curled up, bruised and battered on the side of the road.
Back at the bye week at the end of October the 2010 Bears were coming off of an embarrassing 1-3 stretch, and everyone was counting them out. They responded with a 5 game winning streak and a 7-2 overall post bye record, a division title and the #2 seed in the playoffs. They breezed past the Seahawks and then imploded against the Packers in the Semi-finals.
[NOTE: I don’t care what they are called, the game before the Final (Wether ‘Super Bowl’, ‘World Series’, or ‘Finals’) is called the Semi-Finals. Calling them Conference Championships is nothing more than a gimmick to sell more merchandise. There is only ONE (1) final game/series period]
The defending Stanley Cup Champion Blackhawks didn’t impress during the 2010/11 regular season, and managed to barely slip into the playoffs. They let the Canucks go up 3 games to none with the score being closer than the games felt. After two comfortable 5 goal wins the ‘Hawks pulled out an OT winner to send the series to a deciding Game 7. Where they lost.
And then…
The top seeded Bulls met the Miami Heat.
Three teams in three sports crashing hard in the playoffs, two of them in the Semi-finals. I know I should be happy that they are all playoff level teams, but three disappointing ends leave a bitter aftertaste.
If you believe in trends, what does this say about the Cubs? Are they destined to come within reach of the National League Pennant? With how the team is playing right now, I’d probably take that. [Note: I understand that there may be another baseball team in Chicago… I’ll have to check on that…]
Thoughts on the Bulls:
- I’m at a loss… I’m still not sure if I fall into the Bulls lost game 5 or the Heat won school of thought. In either case it will sting for quite a while.
- If they can keep the core of this team together, these Bulls can be a force in the NBA.
- Scottie Pippen says LaBron James ‘may’ be a better player than Michael Jordan. Which led to some great ESPN videos
[UPDATE: Aparently these video links are all dead… I’ll look for them somewhere else if I have a chance]
